Soleils couchants sur la Seine à Lavacourt

This tapestry, Soleils couchants sur la Seine à Lavacourt (Sunsets on the Seine in Lavacourt), is inspired by a painting realized by Claude Monet in 1880, exhibited on the back of this wall. This representation of the reflection of the sun on the water prompted Laurence Aëgerter to respond in a mirror-like fashion. She plays with the asymmetry of the pattern and disrupts our perception with effects of texture and shine. In her interpretation, the sun is repeated five times, like a ricochet, prolonging the motif so dear to Monet.
