(de)coding Freedom

(de)coding Freedom is Aëgerter’s second interpretation of Delacroix’s painting ‘La Liberté Guidant le peuple’ (photographed in the artist’s book Catalogue des chefs-d’oeuvre du Musée du Louvre, 2009).
This photograph responds to the large amount of didactic images found on the Internet that all propose a rational understanding of the masterpiece.

Different hands define the main lines of the painting’s composition in a possible geometry of symbols, placing the icon of the triumphant republic at the heart of an official study, in close proximity to the public code.
Another referent source being subject to a variety of interpretations.
