Het Apparaat

In Le Louvre and Het Apparaat, Laurence Aëgerter joined iconic works from the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum to the spectators of these works to form a new reality. She did so by taking a photograph at the moment when the spectator and the work appeared to contrast or to merge. The visitors also obstruct the camera’s view of the paintings.

‘Het Apparaat’ is the name of the filing system used by the staff of the Rijksmuseum. Every piece of the collection has its own box in which all the documentation about this particular work is archived. These photographs can be regarded as additions to this comprehensive system.
