Longo Maï

Longo Maï consists of four companion tapestries: ‘Bains de midi’ and ‘Bains de minuit’, daytime and night time swimming. The work is made up of images found on the Internet; the magic is caused by the alteration of the medium: from an ephemeral image on Google to a voluminous tapestry in a museum.

The bathers, whose bodies are worked in phosphorescent thread, light up in the dark. This is in fact a ‘vanitas in reverse’: capturing that blissful moment of becoming immersed in the water is at odds with the bodies that light up and fade away again.

‘Longo Maï’ is a Provençal expression. It means ‘Let it last’.
